Jilin Huaqiao University of Foreign Languages

Jilin HuaQiao University of Foreign Languages (HQUFL) is located in Changchun, along the tourist belt of Jingyue National Forest. HQUFL was founded in 1995. In 2003，it was accredited by the Ministry of Education to offer undergraduate courses, and hence, became the first private four-year foreign language institute to issue bachelor’s degree in the whole country. And in 2005, the school began to enroll postgraduates under a joint program with other universities. In 2007, the school was entitled as a key institution of higher education in Jilin Province, and in 2010, it became the only school to pilot for the national educational system reform project “Exploration of School-running Mode for Public Welfare in Private Colleges”. In 2011, with the approval of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the school began to offer Master programs in Translation and Interpretation (MTI). HQUFL has now become an important educational base in the province focusing on the cultivation of advanced application-oriented personnel in the area of foreign languages and foreign affairs.

The university currently has a student population of 10,007 and a staff of 596, including more than 60 international teachers from 12 countries. The university offers 10 foreign Languages, 26 undergraduate programs and 4 graduate programs. The university has state- of- the- art teaching and sports facilities. The global village, professional training center for language and culture, was designated by the Ministry of Education as a national experimental training demonstrating center in 2013, and named by UNESCO as the world multi-cultural Education Center in 2014.

Adhering to international development strategy, the university has been actively developing international exchanges and cooperation, and endeavors to cultivate innovative talents with international perspective. In November of 2015, the Confucius Institute, co-founded by New Jersey City University and HQUFL, was officially launched, setting up a bridge between China and the world, opening a window for international friends to come and know Chinese language and culture.

The School of International Exchanges is designed to specialize in Chinese international education, offering a variety of programs. The Chinese Training Program is offered at a short-term or long-term program throughout the year. The Intensive Chinese Training Program is offered with different teaching forms and learning contents. The Local Teacher Chinese Training Program focuses on different teaching properties and teaching objectives. Other flexible short-term cultural exchange programs are also offered. The Chinese culture workshops, specially designed to help deepen international students’ understanding of Chinese culture and improve students’ communicative skills, has successfully achieved the integration between language teaching and culture experience.
